AMULET is the world's first digital mammography system to be equipped with Fujifilm's revolutionary direct conversion flat panel detector (FPD). The new FPD has a patented panel structure which features a double layer of amorphous selenium (aSe) that benefits from extremely high X-ray absorption properties. This was developed by combining Fujifilm's "Device Development Technology" and "Vacuum Deposition Technology." The first layer of aSe efficiently converts X-rays into electrical signals, while the second layer employs unique "Direct Optical Switching” technology that captures higher resolution, and lower noise, images. Optical switching replaces the current electrical switches used in conventional TFTs in order to achieve both 50µm pixel size (higher resolution) and low noise mammograms. The AMULET FFDM system can show microcalcifications and other abnormalities in greater detail thus improving early diagnosis of breast cancer.

An exposure is made onto the Imaging Plate (IP) using a conventional Mammography Unit. The IP is then read in the PROFECT CS/ONE image plate reader. The Profect employs dual-side reading technology (DSR) offering a resolution of 50µm. The CR Console then automatically optimizes the image for diagnosis. The console also supports diagnosis using such additional image processing technology such as the auto-blackening, Multi Frequency Processing (MFP), Dynamic Range Control (DRC) which optimises the display of the skin edge by adjusting the direct range of the image density), and Pattern Enhancement Processing for mammography (PEM) which aids detection of minute calcifications.


To enable the most efficient use of the reader, and to facilitate easy integration with normal mammography workflow, the PROFECT CS allows four imaging plates to be processed simultaneously thus increasing productivity. The reader can be fully integrated with any MIS or with the NBSS in order to provide worklist functionality.

All FUJIFILM Mammography imaging systems are capable of outputting their images to PACS but where this is not available FUJIFILM’S dry laser imagers the DRYPIX4000 and DRYPIX 7000 are able to print mammography images onto films at the same 50µm resolution as they were acquired by the FCR plate reader or AMULET FFDM system. FUJIFILM’S dry imaging film is manufactured using the world's first "water-based solvent emulsion" method which does not use harmful organic solvents. As a result, there is no odour from the image recording, display, or storage processes.

The exposure parameters of the mammogram, together with patient demographics and applied processing are automatically sent to the CR Console which can then add these to the image data for output to PACS or dry laser imager. This reduces the need for additional manual data inputs. Therefore, you need not input imaging data manually. Printing two images on one film (2 on 1 format), reduces hardcopy film usage

Images of both the left and right breast can be displayed on a single sheet of 26 cm x 36 cm film without reducing their magnification. This reduces the amount of individual films printed and reduces the amount of time required to mount films.

FUJIFILM's Computed Radiography (FCR) System, which realises high-resolution image processing and enhanced mammography diagnosis, has obtained PMA (Premarket Approval) from the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration), a world first for a CR mammography system. FCR was also the first system to be fully approved by the NHSBSP (National Health Service Breast Screening Programme). FCR also meets EUREF regulations.
